R 11.3 Resilient pavements - Innovative materials

Tuesday, February 8 17:15 - 18:45 (Calgary)

GMT : 02/09| 00:15 - 01:45 Paris : 02/09| 01:15 - 02:45 New Delhi : 02/09| 05:45 - 07:15 Tokyo : 02/09| 09:15 - 10:45 Sydney : 02/09| 11:15 - 12:45

Chair : Ms. Leila HASHEMIAN, Member of PIARC TC 4.1, Canada

This session deals with resilience of road pavements. In this session four diverse congress papers will be presented. Two studies from the USA address temperature related bearing capacity of pavements: one correlates FWD results with a finite element approach considering different temperature environments and the other paper investigates the impacts of improved subgrade soil engineering properties on the pavement performance in cold weather environments. For the colder and snowy regions in Japan a more durable high-performance SMA was developed. Finally, a paper will be presented on counteracting climatic warming in Germany by material adaptations with regard to the thermo-physical and photometric material properties implemented in the mix design and production of climate-optimized asphalts.
